Citizenship ceremony returns to the Friendship Festival

Judge John Tunheim has notified Festival organizers that he has ordered a Citizenship Ceremony for Pelican Rapids on Friday, June 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in E.L.Peterson Park. The Festival last had a ceremony in 2002. Thank you Judge Tunheim!

2:00 p.m. - Verlyn Anderson slide program about Northern Norway at Senior Citizens Center (free refreshments)

1:00 - 3:00 p.m. - Making musical instruments and crafts from around the world - Pelican Rapids Public Library

6:30 p.m. - Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Pelican Rapids (Tour Guide Marguerite Andrews and Chris Schuelke, OTCHS) Meet at High School Parking Lot, Tour starts at Historic Blyberg House. Free cones at Scoops for Walkers after the Tour.

6:30 - 8:00 p.m. - Riverfront Manor Anniversary party (free cake, tours, door prizes)

12:00 noon - Flag raising (Music by Band of Faith, "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus, read by National Merit Scholar Amanda Dutcher) - E.L. Peterson Park

1:00 - 4:00 p.m. - Childrens crafts and games from around the world. Pinatas at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 pm - Sherin Park

A highlight of this year's Friendship Festival will be Roger Tweiten's presentation Music of the World.

"Roger Tweiten's World Music Presentation for children is a wonderful, multi-sensory experience. He uses puppets, recorded music, singing, and moving to music along with his extensive collection of folk instruments from his travels around the world. Roger did presentations for all my students in grades K-5, and all were thrilled and excited about the music and instruments he was sharing with them. Roger geared his presentations to the grade level in front of him. I highly recommend this presentation to anyone interested in seeing and learning more about folk instruments from around the world."
